Want to know more about me, humm? Readers of transhumanist websites probably know me as a technology forecaster, but long before I began writing, I was a pinup artist. My appearance in Secondlife is not merely the form I will eventually have, but also an expression of my artistic talent. I am a piece of my own artwork for all intents and purposes.
My primary form, my succubus avatar that many people are familiar with, is a completely custom made from scratch form, tweaked over the years of my existence in SL. I painted the skin textures, designed the dress textures for the red dress I am most commonly wearing, and even designed and created my own wings, hooves, horns, tail, hair and jewelry. I spent months getting every detail exactly right, and believe me, getting the tattoos to line up properly was a bitch, particularly the one on my back which goes down my tail. The high pony tail hair design I specifically crafted for dancing, and it lashes around wonderfully, as my dancing avatar picture shows. At some point, I will have to get around to teaching myself how to design mesh objects so that I can improve my appearance even more and remove some the “lumps” and lines that still show here and there.
However, being a shapeshifter, I have many other forms as well. Because I make most of my SL money by winning contests, I tend to modify almost everything I buy. Many years ago I bought a black jackal avatar, because I work at a furry club. It started out as just another morph, but I kept tweaking it as well. I started out making her egyptian, with gold hair and jewelry, but one day, there was a rave contest, and I decided to change her hair to neon green, primarily because it contrasted well with my charcoal grey body. I won the contest, and began getting numerous requests to dance in that form. Since then, I have tweaked and modified enormously, even to the point of making custom textures for the originally bought accessories. No other avatar from the creator of my jackal’s head has neon green eyeshadow, nor my forehead tattoo. Additionally, I had to match the skin tones to the jackal accessories, which also required remaking the textures and altering the tones originally used. The tail I made entirely from scratch, as well as my “paws”. My tattoos help to make my nearly black body stand out while dancing, as do the lights I built into my jewelry. The long “Godiva hair” is bought, but modified to glow. I’ve come to love glows actually and I can’t wait until we’ve begun incorporating lights and displays into clothing in the near future.
And one of the most striking outfits I have for my jackal I jokingly call my “stealth armor”. It’s a bought item which has been modified so extensively I am not sure even it’s creator would recognize it. It was a standard “mech armor” design before I “tronified” it by adding glows, transparencies, and some extensive modifications of the actual structure to make it a lot more revealing. It has multiple different wing designs and several variants of the arms and legs. I get teased a lot about being “radioactive” when wearing it, but I have won dozens of contests as a jackal, and have come to enjoy being in this form so much that I will likely spend a few years as one in the real world, primarily because I think that it will be possible to become a jackal girl with an advanced mask and body suit long before the technology is advanced enough to give me my wings, hooves and horns.
As for the armor? I always tell people it’s merely a hologram. I look forward to the day when I can travel from one virtual world to another wearing it, especially once we’ve created a common “cyberspace” and MMO’s allow personal avatars to access their game worlds.
I am so looking forward to walking into Stormwind as my jackal, wearing my armor, instead of just being another generic Draenai.
