Turkey, a Secular state.. FEMEN, Atheism, Domestic violence…

My blog has been flooded with visitors from Turkey. I suspect it has something to do with the Atheist Census, in which Turks, to my surprise – and delight, are extraordinarily active. Right now almost 10,000 Turks have registered as non-believers, which is four times the number of Germans, despite the population of Germany exceeding that of Turkey. Only the U.S. has registered significantly higher numbers, ~ 51,000 – and the other top 4 countries are Brazil and the U.K., with comparable numbers to those of Turkey.
I like to think Turkish non-believers have an urge to tell the (Secular) world some good news about Turkey, and if that is really the case, I totally understand. The majority of Europeans are hostile to possible Turkish membership of the E.U., mainly, let’s face it, because of the majority of Turks being Muslim. We keep hearing negative stories, like, for instance, Turkey – world’s biggest prison for journalists, - ( no. 148 / 179 on the 2011-2012 Press Freedom Index ).
Time and again, I am told also that Turkey is a nation of wife-beaters, and I’m sorry to say I am not surprised.. – (hint: Islam..) , but don’t get me wrong: As tragic events in India show, Muslim societies are not the only ones who treat women like live-stock..

Anyway, I thought I’d liven up my Turkish visitors with some photos. The Ukrainian radical feminist group FEMEN has been demonstrating in Turkey; here’s two photos of their topless activities.
